Participating schools across county Galway will organise ‘Community Nights’ in Winter and Springtime when local residents will mix, chat and have a cup of tea and cake; and where stories will be recorded of life in days gone by; where old photos will be scanned and old films will be digitized by the children of local schools. The material collected will later be annotated (labelled) and placed on shared Galway schools and community websites that will form major digital heritage archives to be enjoyed by the population of Ireland and members of the Irish Diaspora.
Websites include www.irishbeo.com, www.irishfadoado.com * www.galwaygaaheritage.come
A larger gathering of local residents and people with historical links to the locality will be held in the summer months in many of the participating schools.
This project is organised jointly by the Galway Education Centre, Galway County Council and the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) at NUI Galway
