The Swift Satire Festival is unique - no other festival in the world is dedicated to satire in all its forms (apart from one in Iran!). It celebrates the life, works and legacy of Dean Jonathan Swift, English literature's greatest satirist, who resided in Trim for a significant part of his life.
The festival encourages people to participate and give audiences access to, nationally and internationally, acclaimed satirists, comics, politicians and spin doctors, social commentators and academics in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. More big names will gather in 2013 for a programme of satire, political debate, family fun, public readings, drama, talks and much more all in the spectacular setting of the heritage town of Trim, Co. Meath.
The 2013 Festival will include a Gathering theme. Swift was one of the best known letter writers in the English language an art form that was clearly one of the key points of contact between the Irish Diaspora and those who remained at home. The Swift Satire Festival 2013 will be based on a theme of a modest proposal (i.e. the Gathering). Events will include – bringing it all back home – comedians and satirists of Irish origin;International 5 minute plays competition based on 'Gulliver comes to The Gathering' and 'Gulliver, Come Home'. The Swift Gathering Round Table Discussion – with famous Irish and American politicians and panel. Tracing Swift's decendants and Swift Scholars of the world unite to in Trim in 2013.
