On Sunday, 5 May 2013 the streets of Limerick will welcome more than 8,000 runners and 30,000 spectators to the Great Limerick Run. This event has something for every level of runner, including a marathon, half marathon and 6-mile distance event. The Great Limerick Run is accessible to people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels. The event is the highlight of Limerick's Riverfest and is quickly becoming the fastest growing sporting event in Ireland. The event has been specifically designed to capture the growing popularity of running in Ireland and internationally. The race routes have been carefully chosen to maximise opportunities for visitors to gain an appreciation of what Limerick has to offer. The route passes the majestic river Shannon and various tourism attractions, such as the 12th Century King John’s Castle, the Hunt Museum, Treaty Stone, University of Limerick campus and the renowned Thomond Park Rugby stadium.
