Calling all history buffs! 2013 is the year of the Gathering and the year when we mark the 100th anniversary of momentous historical events in the city of Dublin. The upheaval of the Dublin Lockout and the formation of James Connolly’s Irish Citizen Army are but two of a series of historical topics which will be explored in the new Dublin Festival of History. Hosted by Dublin City Public Libraries in Dublin Castle and city libraries, The Dublin Festival of History will draw Dubliners and visitors together to listen to and engage with famous Irish historians as well as historians of international renown. Simon Schama, Jung Chang, Tom Holland, Richard Overy, Ronan Fanning are all taking part and Baron Roy Hattersley will give the keynote address at the opening of the Festival. Visitors can also learn about the wonderful collections of historic and family history documents held in Dublin City Public Libraries.
