Taking place over two weekends in July, the Laya Healthcare Street Performance World Championship will transform Dublin’s Merrion Square (July 12-14) and Cork's St. Patrick's Street (July 20 and 21) into a giant magical playground for little kids, big kids and those of us who just never grew up!
Every year this FREE family festival scours the globe to bring the best international street performers to Ireland to compete for the world champion title. Hold onto your socks and get ready for an action packed FREE festival full to the brim with jaw-dropping jugglers, awe-inspiring acrobats and spine-tingling sword swallowers!
Taking ‘laugh out loud’ to a new level, the Ministry of Silly Ideas will take place in the gigantic laya healthcare lol arena at both the Dublin and Cork festivals this July. This arena will be full to the brim with wet-yourself-laughing activities, such as a pie-throwing championship, world record attempt for the most amount of water balloons thrown simultaneously at a clown and 'The Rainbow Disco' where multi-coloured powder will be thrown in the air to create a cloud of vibrant colour while people bop, beam and bounce around.Thousands of poncho-wearing festival goers are expected to be dancing, chanting and of course singing along at the Singin' in the rain...when it's not rainin' event, while firemen spray the huge chorus with tonnes of water!
With an attendance of approx 240,000 in 2012, this year's free family festival expects over 1/4 million people over the two weekends in Dublin's Merrion Square and St.Patrick's Street, Cork this July.
Persons wishing to join the Ministry of Silly Ideas can do so for free at Facebook.com/theSPWC and at the festival website www.spwc.ie.
